“an essential text”

Anime: A History remains an essential text for anyone searching for a deeper understanding of why anime is the way it is, historically and commercially, and the latest edition does far more than simply updating the material; the changes constitute multiple novel areas of study. “

First review up online of my 2nd edition Anime: A History, from Zoe Crombie at Lancaster University.

  1. I’m happy this book has been given a ten years later update. Especially with the sad fact that Isao Takahata and Leiji Matsumoto aren’t with us anymore. Even so, I’m glad Hideaki Anno completed his Evangelion rebuild series earlier this depressing decade. (The COVID type coronavirus, Cultural Ukrainia, along with it’s bordering regions post February 2022 collective homicide. Many years after some petty political justification 2014 Maiden Massacre activities took place, etc.) Each individual has their own taste and preferences. Like I imagine myself having more Cyberpunk characteristics than Battle-Shonen ones. Along with adding in some Greg Wiseman’s pre “Goliath Chronicals,” episodes of Gargoyles and Everett Peck’s Duckman from some societies more liberal, less groupist than Japan as well too.
